Just for fun

Are bloggers journalists? The debate rages on despite how recent research has showed that the majority of bloggers focus on relating their personal experiences to a limited audience. As a trained journalist who blogs, I must admit I don't see my blogging as journalism. Blogging is just for fun.
Since I'm a bit of a media junkie my blogging tend to dwell on media and communications, and when I'm not too busy chasing work-related deadlines I might even take the meta-level and reflect on the nature of media and where it's all heading. Okay I still fact-check and all of that when I blog, but blogging is just me exploring my interests, free format. Fundamentally I think blogging is about personal voice and conversations. I love the fact that my blog attract people with similar interests to mine, spark good conversations - and I learn and discover new things all the time from people linking to or visiting my blog.
It's only natural that a blogger brings his or her professional training to blogging - this is why corporate blogs struggle to find a successful format and CEO blogs tend to be riddled with corporate speak.
When I started blogging I found by surprise – it was not the intention - that it was a good way to recapture my personal voice which I felt I'd lost somewhere in journalism school (some premature reflections about why here). I still find that in periods where I'm working a lot I tend to revert to just reporting small snippets of news I find interesting, so 'voice' fluctuates.
